The containment of MIPS consumption is always a topic of interest, not only for ordinary consumption, but above all for extraordinary consumption, resulting from peaks in processing.
An important banking institution asked us for a feasibility study through a POC on their systems, initially on Unix technology and, later, on Windows, with the aim of defining the most suitable target environment for re-hosting applications.
After definitively choosing the Windows environment, we developed ad hoc Tester Programs to perform stress tests useful to verify the solidity and performance of the new environment in relation to solidity and performance guaranteed by the mainframe. After the testing and verification phase, we implemented the final environment using the Xframe Framework, Fujitsu Cobol and SQLS DB, all on Windows system. In this environment we subsequently carried out the re-hosting of 5 applications of the General Accounting area. The solution resulted in savings of 300 ordinary MIPS and 500 in the peak. Another important benefit was the sustainability of the Business Case, as the break even point was already reached during the first year. In addition, it was possible to keep the application unchanged for the end user and to implement an optimization of obsolete software.
